Cheryl Phillips

Whether you find yourself struggling with mental health conditions like anxiety or depression, are facing difficulty coping with a traumatic experience, or just need support through a challenging life transition, I will walk this journey alongside you. I use evidence-based practices including CBT and Acceptance and Commitment-based therapies, and incorporate mindfulness into both my practice and my own life.

I completed my M.S. degree in Clinical Rehabilitation and Mental Health Counseling at UNC Chapel Hill and am a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor Associate. I am also a Certified Rehabilitation Counselor. I have experience providing psychotherapy for people of all ages, ranging from children as young as age three to older adults. Additionally, I have both an academic focus and practical experience serving individuals with developmental disorders such as autism spectrum disorder.

I take a collaborative approach to counseling and understand that each person is unique and deserving of individualized care. I understand that people are complex and affected by the world around them in a number of ways. I take a strengths-based and person-centered approach, and I am eager to connect with each client in a meaningful way. If you would like to incorporate faith or spirituality into our time together, please let me know and we can discuss this. I strive to provide a safe and empowering space for clients of all backgrounds. I value authenticity for myself and my clients and look forward to working with you!

From Cheryl:
It is often said that “you cannot pour from an empty cup”. Many times in life we find that we are pouring from our own cup into work, relationships, family, etc. and finding that there is not much left for ourselves at the end of the day. Learning to create opportunities that refill your own cup is so important in experiencing peace and not feeling burnt out going through life. In my personal life, I enjoy running, hiking, and paddleboarding. When I’m feeling that my own cup is running low, I find myself able to rest and recharge when I am connected with nature.
